An Alor Setar, Kedah groom has spent his first day as a married man in police lock-up after aiding in the evasion of a friend during an attempted arrest while at his wedding Sunday night.

Yes, you read that right. While some grooms are nervously anticipating their speech, and remembering distant relatives’ names, this newlywed was busy planning how his homie was going to skip out on the 5-0.

When police arrived at the couple’s wedding reception at a hotel on Jalan Putra with an arrest warrant for one of the guests, the groom quickly created a diversion to distract the on-duty officers, allowing his friend to escape in the chaotic milieu.

Just what kind of distraction? While a dramatic fainting scene might suffice in a Mexican telenovela, in Kedah, they do things a little different.

Police report that a group of 40 men including the groom and his friends surrounded the outnumbers police, and a scuffle ensued. The groom then reportedly threw a glass at one of the arresting officers.

Class in a glass, as they say.

While is plan did have temporary effect, with the suspect slipping out the back, the law caught up with the groom, who was arrested at home the following day. We believe this is what they call “obstruction of justice” on all the cop TV shows.

Officers added that there was a commotion during the arrest, and back-up had to be called. Family members joined in resisting the groom’s arrest, and a mobile phone belonging to one of them recorded the whole hot mess.

We here at CoconutsKL can’t wait for it to go online.

And to the bride – it sounds to us like you got yourself quite the catch. Congrats, you two crazy kids!
