Awin, who tweets under the username Zuin (@jkkljh165), took to her social media account on the micro-blogging platform, to describe the altercation her mother had just had with a driver as she tried to take a ride to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL).
Entering into the car, Awin explained that her 63-year-old mother wanted to ensure that she was in the right vehicle, and asked the driver if he was indeed going to HKL. Instead of answering her, he instead shouted at her “Tengok number plate! Tengok number plate!” (Look at the number plate!).
Surprised at his reaction, the woman then asked him why he was behaving so arrogantly, at which point she tried to exit the vehicle, informing him that she did not want to take the journey with him. He retorted that she was not only rude, but also very old.
Not taking the comment lying down, Awin’s mother then pointed out to the driver that his hair too, was white, and this observation was not appreciated.
At this point, the driver exited the car, spat at the woman, and punched her in the jaw. A nearby guard observed the fracas, and rushed over. The driver then fled the scene.
A certified report from a hospital confirmed that Awin’s 63-year-old mother had indeed sustained a blow to the jaw, and suffered soft tissue damage.
Awin has since doubled-down on her claims, clarifying that the incident occurred outside of her home in Wangsa Maju.
After her post on the incident went viral, a family member of the driver contacted her and asked to remove the tweets.
Grab has since confirmed that the driver is currently suspended, pending investigation. A police report via the victim has also been filed on the matter.
