Govt proposes speed limiter device for public transport

The Transport Ministry is looking into the usage of a ‘speed limiter device’ in public transportation.

Bernama quoted Deputy Transport Minister Ab. Aziz Kaprawi as saying that the device —  used to limit the top speed of a vehicle — has been made compulsory for commercial vehicles since Jan 1, last year and is expected to be fully enforced — for new model an in-production vehicles — by 2017.

He reportedly said at the Dewan Negara that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has developed a profiling system containing the record of traffic offences and blacklisting under the police traffic system.

The profiling system will involve public service vehicle (PSV) drivers and goods driver’s license (GDL) holders.

“The application, in its printed form, contains information such as the demographics of the driver, the driver’s license, suspension of license, blacklisting and a record of summonses,” he was quoted as saying.
