Govt: No more advance notice for monthly fuel prices

Looking for news on a fuel prices next month? You’ll get it, but not now. 

The government has decided to intensify its monthly petrol price surprise by keeping the announcement until midnight.

“We have decided to stop the previous practice of announcing the new prices on the last day of the month. From now, motorists will only know if the prices are going up or down or maintained on midnight,” The Star Online quoted Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek as saying.

Since December — when the government introduced a managed float system for fuel prices — Malaysians have collectively looked to headlines every end of the month hoping for lowered petrol prices.

Prices for RON95 and diesel rose 10 sen from May to RM2.05 a litre this month.
