On what would have been his 61st birthday, Malaysian Internet users wanting to key in a search on Google today found an image of national hero and football icon Mokhtar Dahari waiting for them.
Today’s Google Doodle is timely in more ways than one – just as the Malaysian sporting spirit is wavering in light of revelations on Lee Chong Wei’s use of banned substances, and the often poor showing of our national football squad, it’s great to be reminded of how Supermokh brought the entire nation together and put the world on notice – Malaysia could kick ass on the field.
Since his passing in 1991, the country has been struggling to fill the void left by Mokhtar’s gargantuan presence. His short, exceptional life continues to serve as a blueprint for all Malaysians aiming for greatness.
Well played, Mokh. And thanks, Google.
