Gone in 120 seconds: robbers make out with RM600,000 in gems from Butterworth jewellers

Four men pulled off a daring robbery at a jewelry store in Medan Kurau 1, near Butterworth, Penang, fleeing with RM600,000 in gems as a result.

During the incident at around 11.34am yesterday, one of the four robbers fired off a warning shot from one of the two pistols he was brandishing.

The owners of the jewelry store, Lim Kheg Lin and her husband Ng Weng Keng, could only stand and bear witness to the robbery behind the stores’ display shevles.

“Three men wearing full-face helmets and black jackets walked in but they couldn’t see us,” Lim told Lo Tern Chern of The Star Online.

“Two of them started breaking the glass panels using hammers. They then placed all the jewellery into a bag.

“Another robber was standing guard outside armed with two guns.

“It was all over in less than two minutes.”

Also taken from the jewelry store were gold necklaces, rings, and bracelets.

The Star has released footage of the robbery as captured from outside the shop onto its official YouTube channel:
