A factory engineer was reportedly arrested on Wednesday for allegedly abusing an eight-year-old girl, Free Malaysia Today reports.
According to the news portal, the 36-year-old man also allegedly forced the girl to swallow a cockroach, and was only fed plain rice with soy sauce.
The alleged abuse was reportedly discovered last Monday when the girl’s mother brought her to the Penang Hospital for treatment.
During treatment, the doctor reportedly discovered bruises all over her body and later reported the matter to the police.
The suspect, who is the boyfriend of the girl’s mother, was then arrested at their house in Bukit Gambir, George Town at around 1am.
The news portal reported that the suspect admitted to hitting the girl with a wooden ruler because she was naughty and often told lies.
Timur Laut District Police Chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told FMT that the case is under investigation.
