Girl, 11, with H1N1 comes out of coma after three years

It’s not every day that we get to hear a story like this.

In Penang, an 11-year-old girl who had been in and out of a comatose state for three years, has reportedly shown major signs of recovery.

The New Straits Times’ Audrey Dermawan reported the miraculous case of Chan Yi Yuin, — in a coma from the age of eight following a H1N1 infection — who was admitted to the Penang Hospital in December 2012.

Her mother Chan Lai Khin, 40, told the daily that Yi Yuin was discharged after seven months when she showed signs of being able to breathe on her own. Over the last year, her progress was rapid.

“She is now able to open her eyes and respond whenever I call her. When she is extremely alert, she is able to move her hands,” the NST quoted her as saying.

“I am just hoping for miracles to happen and my daughter can lead a normal life like other children,” she was quoted further.
