Ghost Flusters: Man taking walk meets neighbor burning joss paper, gets mistaken for spirit coming to collect funds in viral post

Oh, internet – our greatest love, borne out of some of our greatest collective content shames. Some days, we hate you, and others we wonder what we would do without you.

Behold, today’s best viral post, courtesy of Sivasunthra Theva, a Kuala Lumpur-based man who writes he decided to take a leisurely neighborhood stroll on Friday night, only to be confused with a ghost by his fellow housing area residents.

Writing that he ventured out after dinner for a quick bout of exercise, he found himself outside a convenient store needing to buy something, but having forgotten his wallet at home.

He rang up his family back at the house, and asked for someone to meet him with cash so he could buy what he needed, and patiently waited.

Noticing that an elderly neighbor was nearby, and burning joss paper, he went over to have a quick chat while he waited.

“What are you doing here?” Sivasunthra asked the old man.

“I am sending money to my family” he explained, as spirit money paper is often burned as an offering to dead relatives.

He then asked Sivasunthra: “What are you doing here?”

“I am waiting for my family to send money to me,” he replied, not realizing the mystical implications that his statement had until it was comically too late.

Upon hearing those words, he says the man turned pale, mistaking him for a ghost waiting for his afterlife money transfer, and ran away.

Despite him trying to explain he was, in fact, just a living human waiting for money from his actual family, others burning their joss paper nearby also fled the scene.

The post, though we’re still waiting on a response from the original poster over the realness of it all, has since been shared nearly 8,000 times, and garnered over 16,000 reactions appreciating the lighthearted chuckle.

Ah, internet. You give us laughs, you give us tears, you (occasionally) give of life.
