KL commuters who use the city’s taxis and buses will have to fork out more for their trips from April 1 onwards, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) announced today.
According to Patrick Lee of The Star Online, the revised public transportation rates will come into effect to adjust for new costs brought about by the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which will also come into effect on April 1.
Flag-down rates for budget taxis will remain the same at RM3, but instead of increasing at 10 sen every 115m, the rate is now 25 sen/200m.
The higher-tier Teks1m cabs, which are all larger Proton Exoras, will now have a flag-down rate of RM4, with a distance rate of 30 sen/200m.
Express buses will see an increase from the current 9.3 sen per kilometer rate to that of 11.4 sen per kilometer.
SPAD illustrated the increase by stating an express bus trip from KL to Ipoh, currently priced at RM20.60, will cost RM25.30 from April 1.
