A group of 11 people who had gathered for a Fathers’ Day celebration has been arrested for allegedly being part of a gang.

The group, aged 26 to 61, and suspected of being members of “Gang 35,” was nabbed yesterday after a video of the party was posted to TikTok, showing an individual cutting a cake in the shape of the number “35.” Fifteen other individuals were filmed in the 44-second video without social distancing.

“Initial investigation found that the event took place in the house of one of the suspects to celebrate Father’s Day,” Kedah Police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said in a statement today. The video was no longer publicly available.

The 11 individuals, including two women, were nabbed following a raid in Kulim. Police were also investigating them for possibly violating COVID-19 measures.

Offenses under the Societies Act and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations carry penalties that include imprisonment and a fine.
