FRU Driver: Bersih 2.0 Protestors Threw Rocks Only After Being Water Cannoned

See, this is why court cases should proceed faster in this country: we just can’t seem to move on after someone commits a grievous boo-boo.
The High Court was told today in a testimony by FRU truck driver Corporal Ramli Hj Musa that protestors at 2011’s Bersih 2.0 rally only began to throw rocks at FRU vehicles after they had been hammered by the Federal Reserve Unit’s water cannons.
Corporal Ramli appeared on the stand as the ninth government witness in the lawsuit against the reform group Bersih 2.0 filed on May 23, 2012, claiming compensation for alleged damages to property – mainly police vehicles – during the rally.
Attorney for two of the Bersih committee members Syahredzan Johan in his cross-examination of Ramli asked, “Do you agree that the actual reason that stones were thrown at your vehicle was because water cannon was used?” to which Ramli agreed.

Syahredzan followed up with, “If the water cannon was not fired, (stones) won’t be thrown?”

Ramli replied in the affirmative. He also agreed that the order to fire the water cannons in the direction of the protestors was given while the FRU trucks were moving forward.

The FRU driver earlier told Tan Cheng Leong, another attorney for the rally’s organizers, that he did not know whether or not the water sprayed on the protestors was laced with chemicals.

When cross-examined by SFC Normasutra Ayub however, Ramli explained that when the order to drive the trucks forward was given, rally participants had breached the cordon set up around Dataran Merdeka.
