A meeting of the UMNO Supreme Council, which was originally slated to take place this Friday, has been called off.
Anticipation for the meeting was high, following yesterday’s Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Najib Razak, which saw the ouster of former DPM Muhyiddin Yassin, Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal, Domestic Trade, Cooperative sand Consumerism Minister Hasan Malek, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Ewon Ebin, and Natural Resources and Environment Minister G Palanivel.
Muhyiddin and Shafie, while out of the Cabinet, still retain their posts of UMNO Deputy President and Vice President, respectively. It remains to be seen if they will be able to hold on to their senior party posts formuch longer, now that they have been ejected from Najib’s administration.
The Sun Daily reports that according to a statement released by UMNO secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor, also cancelled were a briefing session to be tabled by Najib and a Hari Raya celebration.
No reason was given for the cancellation.
