Freed Malaysians flown to Kota Kinabalu in police aircraft

The four Malaysians who were abducted and later freed by their Abu Sayyaf militant captors in the Philippines were flown in to Kota Kinabalu in a police aircraft today.

According to a Bernama report, brothers Wong Teck Kang, 31, and Wong Teck Chii, 29, their cousin Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21, and Wong Hung Sing, 34, reached Sandakan yesterday and stayed at a hotel there, where they reunited with family members.

They had also reportedly undergone medical examinations before flying in to Kota Kinabalu.

“They did not go to any hospital. Our medical officers examined them at their place of stay and they were found to be in good health,” Sabah Health director Dr Christina Rundi told Bernama.

The report stated that Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the four Malaysians — tugboat crew who were abducted while returning to Sarawak from the Philippines on April 1 — would have their statements recorded.
