Free WiFi, mobile app planned for KL-Padang Besar ETS service

Here’s one for all those planning to board the KL-Padang Besar Electric Train Service: KTM Bhd (KTMB) has plans to introduce wireless Internet free of charge!

That’s right. Free WiFi to keep you glued to your phones and occupied during those hours heading up north.

Bernama reports that KTMB also wants to launch a mobile application for ease of booking to go along with its tie-up with regional and local budget airlines by offering a ‘door-to-door’ service.

“This is a strategic alliance and a win-win arrangement that we hope to achieve in order to increase ridership and at the same time to jointly promote our services to international passengers across the region,” its president Lt Kol (Rtd) Sarbini Tijan was quoted as saying.

He added that KTMB would also work with bus and taxi operators as well as tour agencies for a more integrated transport experience for locals and foreigners.

This collaboration, he told Bernama, would help increase passengers during the off-peak period of the ETS service, which he said was between Monday and Thursday.

“The only way to have more people using our services is to bring in local and foreign tourists to use our ETS services during such periods,” he was quoted further.

Between July 11 and 25, more than 12,000 ETS tickets for the KL-Padang Besar route were sold.
