Free kick sensation Faiz Subri nets RM10,000

Penang FA’s free kick sensation Faiz Subri has been awarded RM10,000 by the state government after his incredible football manoeuvre became a global viral hit. 

The Star Online reports that Faiz would receive the cash reward for “bringing worldwide recognition and glory to Penang and Malaysia.”

“This is the first time a Malaysian footballer has received global fame for the right reasons,” Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was quoted as saying.

Faiz’s goal against Pahang in a Malaysia Super League game was so unbelievable that its now among the early contenders for Fifa’s 2016 Puskas Award, which honours the player who is judged to have scored the ‘most beautiful’ goal for the year.
