It’s the fasting month, which means lots of great food in the evenings, giant rush hour traffic jams, and a depressingly high number of accidents involving fireworks.
The latter is illustrated by a case in Shah Alam, in which a four-year old boy has lost all the fingers on his left hand following a fireworks mishap in Kampung Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat, near Shah Alam.
In the incident which happened at around 8pm last night, the victim was believed to have been playing with his friends in front of his family home, with a firework known as the “A-Boom”.
The firework exploded prematurely in the boy’s hand, and his fingers were obliterated in the blast.
Berita Harian reports that the victim was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang at around 9.30pm.
The following image, submitted by a reader to Berita Harian, is somewhat graphic and mildly distressing, but should serve as a reminder of the dangers of allowing kids to play with fireworks – which, we might like to add, are illegal, no matter how old you are.
