Abu Sayyaf militants have reportedly freed four Sarawakian sailors who were kidnapped off Pulau Ligitan on April 1.
The Star Online cited reports from Jolo which indicated that Malaysian and Filipino negotiators managed to secure the hostages’ release after several rounds of negotiations.
The report stated that the four arrived in Sandakan, Sabah, earlier today.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun, however, declined to confirm the news, the portal reports.
The four Malaysians – Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Hung Sing, 34, Wong Teck Chii, 29, and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21 — were kidnapped off the MV Massive 6 tugboat on its way back to Tawau after delivering the timber cargo in Manila.
It was reported that the militants demanded a RM30 mil ransom.
