Four Malaysians confirmed dead, one alive, three still missing, following Mecca crane collapse

The Federal Government has confirmed the deaths of four Hajj pilgrims from Malaysia in the wake of last Friday’s crane collapse at the Haram Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom said that out of the eight Malaysian pilgrims reported missing in the immediate aftermath of the incident, one has been verified to be alive and well, while three others are still unaccounted for.

The four confirmed dead are Rusiah Suar, 56, of Sungkai, Perak, and Kelantan residents Siti Nurolshlizan Zolkifli, 37, from Tanah Merah; Rohana Ismail, 54, from Kuala Krai; and Munah Jusoh, 73, from Cherang Ruku.

Still missing are Abdul Habib Lahman, 68, from Sik, Kedah; Shahidan Saad, 52, (Kodiang, Kedah); and Zainun Taha, 69, (Ampang, Selangor).

Abdul Muluk Ishak, 71, has been the sole confirmed survivor of the incident. In fact, Bernama reports that Abdul Muluk was nowhere near the scene of the crane collapse at the time of the incident, but was rather at a hostel for Thai Hajj pilgrims nearby.

The crane collapse at Mecca’s Haram Mosque, one of the holiest sites in Islam and the focal point of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, claimed the lives of over 100 people and injured hundreds more, including 10 Malaysians.
