We know Ampang isn’t as exciting as some other neighbourhoods in and around KL, so things that happen there might escape the notice of the general populace. But when a hill catches fire, you’d do best to pay attention.
A large swath of undergrowth in Sering Ukay went ablaze last night, caused by what was believed to be firecrackers set off nearby.
Ampang Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Anuar Yacob said the 9pm fire covered almost four hectares of the surrounding area with acrid smoke and fire. No injuries or casualties were reported, however.
The Ampang fire station received an emergency call at 9.21pm, and dispatched a fire engine along with three others from the Wangsa Maju, Pandan Indah and Hang Tuah fire stations.
“With 33 personnel, including from the police and the Civil Defence Department, we were confronted with strong winds that caused the fire to spread quickly,” he said when contacted.
The fire was put under control completely by 12.40 am, he said.
He said the actual cause of the fire was still under investigation.
