Former adult actor turned musician, entrepreneur, model and now a samaritan, Ms Siew Pui Yi recently launched a scholarship fund worth RM4.3 million (US$1,000,000) to help underprivileged students further their education and achieve their academic dreams.
Speaking about her own experience of coming from the same background, the 25-year-old said this sort of opportunity never presented itself when she was young and had dreams of becoming a surgeon.
“As a girl who came from an underprivileged background, I always wished that I could have had extra financial help so that I could have furthered my studies.
“It’s something that I think about all the time up until this day, maybe my life would be different?”
“Not everyone is given equal opportunities and there are so many people I know that could have gone so far if they had the financial help when they were younger,” she wrote in her Instagram caption.
Siew said her background and living in a rural area back then had caused her to give up her dreams.
She said she had to juggle work, studies, and a modeling career, all of which led her to skip meals and suffer from lack of sleep.
“In the end, I couldn’t pursue my dream to become a surgeon because of many factors, such as I [didn’t] have enough funding for my studies, my family wasn’t privileged enough to do it (sponsor my tuition fees), and I couldn’t find any scholarships [in time],” she said in an Instagram Reel uploaded on Feb. 14.
“But now that I’m able to make a difference, I wish to give back to society by starting up this scholarship for students who need it most,” said Siew.
Underprivileged students from around the world can apply for the scholarship set up by Siew, in collaboration with the Educapital Foundation.
“Each student will be granted USD1,000 (about RM4,400) to pursue whichever education field they desire. They are provided with access to financial hardship funds while they are in school, as well as business start-up grants upon graduation,” Siew shared.
Still keeping with her seductive persona (which we must say is a pretty brilliant tactic), the application website has her pictures plastered all over with the “Apply Now” button located right on top of a photo of her breasts (cheeky eh).
