Police are on the lookout for a suspect who seriously injured an Australian man yesterday afternoon after an argument in a town 35km outside of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Identified as a 46-year-old man married to a local, police believe that the incident occurred at 2:30pm, with the suspect — a local man in his 30s, attacking the victim from behind with a parang (machete) following their fracas.
He sustained a series of injuries to his arm and back. Authorities believe the suspect then fled the scene into the nearby forest, and is currently in hiding.
“We are hunting the suspect,” say investigators.
Nearby villagers went to the aid of the man, who reportedly runs a local home stay along with his Malaysian wife. He has lost a fair amount of blood and currently being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

A Facebook post has asked for residents in the area that are a match to the victim’s O+ blood-type to please make their way to the hospital to donate blood.
