Floorplan Man, the urban legend, life-long criminal, and thief of our wildest bank robbing dreams, was named and charged at Jalan Duta magistrate’s court Tuesday.
You may remember him as the guy who was captured on camera entering a Damansara Heights bank, armed with nothing more than a floorplan, while wearing shorts, and left with RM600,000.
Kartik Rajandran, 28-years-old and unemployed (it’s a full-time job living an alleged epic thief’s life), has pleaded not guilty.
Sir, while you may feel like there’s nothing to lose, you’re aware that there’s CCTV of you throughout the whole operation, right? Just checking.
Kartik is also being charged with other offenses of a similar nature, with his past exploitations coming to light after his photo went viral last month, when police were forced to ask the public for assistance in identifying the bank robber.
Six private businesses, including a lawyer’s firm and construction company, recognized him and have come forward to say that Floorplan Man stole from them too, using a similar modus operandi of unassuming service worker gaining access to private areas, and then stealing anything he could grab.
It was a busy day for Kartik, who arrived at the courthouse at 10:00am, and then went to no less than three separate courtrooms to face sundry charges from various establishments. Bail was finally set at RM40,000, and it was paid by his parents at 5:30pm yesterday.
Unfortunately, no one told his family that upon release, he was going to be arrested yet again. This time by Johor police, who are investigating theft charges that he is said to have committed in the state.
As it stands, Floorplan Man’s journey through Malaysia’s judiciary system will be much like Sisyphus, trying to roll his rock up the mountain.
He currently has 40 police reports filed against him, all awaiting investigation. As soon as he thinks he’s reached the end, and makes bail, another charge will come rolling down the hill to take him back to square one.
As good as a story as it was, crime, doesn’t pay – and Floorplan Man is learning this the hard way.
