Were you affected by the recent flash floods? There’s one thing you can do: sue the local authorities.
Syahredzan Johan, a counsel at a private law firm, told Bernama that those who were affected by the flash floods recently can opt to sue the local authorities for damages.
However, it would be a little bit tricky as they would need to provide evidence supported by relevant experts to show negligence by the local authority.
“For instance, in this case, the victims can get advice from experts in engineering to testify on their behalf in court,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.
“The testimony will be based on evidence, such as the witness testimony, newspaper clippings, pictures of the incident and receipts for payments made in the case.”
As such, victims seldom pursue the matter as it requires quite a bit of money and time to get professional advice, he said.
According to the same report, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said DBKL was prepared if victims of the recent flash floods plan to sue them.
“We have our own lawyers to resolve the matter,” he told Bernama.
