Five spiked and hospitalized by free sachet of drug-laced instant white coffee

Waste not, want not – but we’re not entirely sure that that victims of tainted instant white coffee in Penang intended to get high after drinking a free cup.

Investigators are currently testing the contents of durian-flavored white coffee (Ed. note: ew) after police confirmed that the packets were indeed opened, tampered with, and then resealed, before being found discarded along a Penang road. They believe that the product was laced with drugs, and intended for distribution at entertainment outlets on the island. They are now looking for the syndicate responsible.

In a press conference today, police reported that the coffee could be laced with ketamine, syabu, or ecstasy.

The cost of this shit-mix of saccharine white coffee, durian flavor and mind-altering substances? According to police – a bit more than what we here at Coconuts KL would have expected: a single serving of the drug cocktail will set you back RM200 (US$50) for one drug, or up to RM300 (US$125) for a double mix.

If you’re saying to yourself – I wouldn’t even pay a Ringgit for that crap, what if someone offered it to you free (drugs undisclosed, but included!)?

Police are reporting two of the victims were offered a free sachet by a mystery woman at a Jelutong, Penang coffee shop. They are currently searching for the woman, reportedly in her 40s.

Three other victims found themselves on a trip they hadn’t planned after a co-worker found the disposed sachets in the rubbish. He then shared them with his colleagues, and all three were later hospitalized with extreme fatigue and weakness (ketamine, confirm).

Five police reports have since been lodged, authorities are on the hunt for those responsible and they are urging the public to be wary of any “free coffee” packets offered by strangers.

Remember when you were a kid and you were told “never take candy from strangers”? We’d like to add an adult addendum reminding you that nothing is free.
