Nor Azizi Abdul Razak, 28, was arraigned on charges of raping a 26-year-old New Zealand tourist earlier this month, as she took a short-cut back from the beach in Tanjung Bungah, Penang. The fisherman plead not guilty.

The Star reports that the crime occurred behind The Cove Condominium, at 11:45am September 3.

Bail was initially set at RM20,000 (US$4,000), but was lowered after the defense plead for a more lenient sum. Nothing like trying to bargain down for an accused rapist.

The judge set final bail at RM10,000 (US$2,000), and asked Nor Azizi to report to a police station every month. The next court date is October 13.

The victim reported that she was walking back to her hotel via a shortcut, when a man followed her, grabbed her and dragged her into a back alley. There, he allegedly raped her.

The suspect was arrested at his house September 8, at 1:30am. He tested positive for methamphetamine.
