Michael Bay continues his crusade to reinvent the iconic figures of your youth as the first trailer for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is now released to the wild.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Bay, the trailer features distinctively Bay-esque frenetic camera angles, explosions, “whomp-whomp” dubstep sound effects that fans have been enjoying/dreading since the first Transformers movie.
The plot, from what we can see, hews more or less closely to the canon we’re all familiar with: there’s the green radioactive ooze; the four wisecracking turtles look appropriately teenaged and ninja-like; April O’Neil (played by Megan Fox) is still the Turtles’ link to the outside world; and Michelangelo is still the goof-off of the team. But yeah … Shredder (William Fichtner) and April’s father being responsible for the creation of the Turtles? That’s a little weird. Although not as weird as the Turtles looking like massive green babies when they’re unmasked, even though they can ram shell-first into a Hummer with no problem. We’re thinking … msuclebound Shreks. That’s going to take some getting used to.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to be in cinemas worldwide August 18.
