Where thankless tasks are concerned, a firefighter’s duties — when he’s not dousing out flames —would easily beat the competition.
Often, these unsung heroes battle more than just blazes, as in the case of a 32-year-old firefighter who came close to losing sight in one eye after a nasty confrontation with a cobra in Betong, Sarawak.
The Rakyat Post’s Dennis Wong reports the incident that happened when fireman Prangka Gudan responded to a distress call about a cobra in Taman Teo Zee Hin at 10pm.
According to the portal, the cobra suddenly spat venom at the fireman, who had not worn any eye protection while attempting to secure the reptile.
He was then rushed over to the Betong hospital for treatment and eight hours later, was told he was good to go. Betong Fire and Rescue Department chief James Wheelan told TRP that the snake was a black spitting cobra.
