A fire broke out at one of the silos or intermediate product storage vessels at Petronas Chemicals LDPE Sdn Bhd (PC LDPE) in Kerteh, Terengganu, yesterday.
Petronas said in a statement that no casualties were reported in the 5pm incident.
“The incident has been brought under control. All relevant authorities have been informed. There is no immediate threat to on-site personnel or the surrounding community,” the statement said.
“An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of damage to property.”
Bernama reported today that three fire engines and a team of 35 people, including firefighters and a Hazmat (Hazardous Materials) unit were sent to the scene. Flames were put out by 9pm, said Terengganu Fire and Rescue Zone 2 officer Azmi Abdul Rahim,
“We also did cooling operations so as to prevent flammable materials from igniting,” he told Bernama.
