A charity event went from benevolent to barbaric when attendees began fighting over goodie bags that were being handed out in front of the Goddess of Mercy Temple in George Town, Penang, on Wednesday.

China Press via The Star reports that the brawl occurred when some of those being helped by the charity –among them the elderly, underprivileged, and homeless –began pushing and shoving each other in an attempt to secure a bag on Wednesday morning.

While two men came to actual blows with each other, several others in the queue managed to calm them down. Eventually, 300 goodie bags were distributed to attendees during the event held by Angels Group, something they do bi-monthly.

However, the organizers decided to withhold RM5 (US$1.25) angpow (money envelope) packets that were initially to be distributed among the needy, due to the earlier altercation.

Seems a bit unfair to let a couple of angry apples spoil the bunch, no?
