Federal Government to tackle Malaysia’s heat wave … with a new committee

Putrajaya is moving decisively in its efforts to address Malaysia’s struggle against the heat wave afflicting the nation … by putting together a new inter-departmental committee to study the problem.

Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, told the Dewan Rakyat today that his ministry would spearhead the formation of the committee and would meet with related governmental agencies in its run-up, including the Ministries of Education and Energy, Green Technology and Water, and the Meteorological Department.

Wan Junaidi said that the Malaysian government was very serious in addressing the heat wave, especially as the El Nino weather phenomenon said to have caused the rise in recent temperatures could run on for several more years.

“I have given instructions to my officers to have the meeting later this week. We already have a national committee to address the haze problem, so there should be one on heat wave,” he said outside of Parliament, as quoted by the New Straits Times Online

Meanwhile, Malaysians are already hunkering down for some of the hottest climes the country has ever experienced, with the March 20 spring equinox expected to be the hottest day in Malaysian history.

But at least we have a new committee!
