Father and son killed in car fire

A father and son from Labuan were burned to death when the car they were traveling in exploded and caught fire on Friday.

Supt Adzhar Othman told The Star Online that firemen found the charred remains of the victims – Yunus Japar, 39, and his five-year-old son Muhamad Darwisy Haiman – in the vehicle after they put out the flames.

“The victims were heading towards the Chi Hwa kindergarten prior to the noon incident.

“The back of the car exploded first but the vehicle caught fire after the second blast,” Supt Adzhar was quoted as saying.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Yunus tried to get out of the burning Proton Gen-2, but failed to do so. Passers-by who were at the scene also reportedly tried to help the victims, but were unable to do so as the fire was too big.

The remains have been taken to hospital for a post mortem and the cause of the explosion is being investigated, according to The Star Online.
