Father alleges son was slapped by bookstore security staff who wrongly accused him of stealing

Management at the popular MPH Bookstore chain are now investigating an incident that saw one of their security guards allegedly slap a teenage boy, accusing him of stealing one of the shop’s books.

According to a Facebook post by the boy’s father, a guard working at the MPH outlet at Nu Sentral mall accused the boy of stealing a comic, and slapped him twice. He is then accused of demanding that the boy show him the contents of his bag, and is said to have dragged him into an adjacent room, bringing another guard with him.

Having pulled the book out of the boy’s bag, the other guard then pointed out that it had a “PAID” sticker attached, and they let the 13-year-old go.

Alleging that the two told the boy not to tell his parents, hundreds have since shared the post.

MPH have said they have been made aware of an incident:

“We thank you for your concern and for bringing this matter to our attention. Please rest assured that we take this matter seriously.

“Immediate action has been taken and an investigation is already well underway. The staff involved in this matter has been suspended, pending investigation,” read a statement on their Facebook page.

A police report has since been filed by the boy’s parents.
