A family’s vacation went from picturesque to grotesque once they realized that the pictures did not match reality. The group of 14 had all planned a weekend stay in a bungalow at a resort in Sungai Chongkak, Hulu Langat, but once they saw the dilapidated structure, they left first thing in the morning.
Facebook use Emma Emrys uploaded the horrifying photos earlier this week, and they quickly became viral with 3,400 shares and 2,800 reactions from the public. The images show moldy ceilings and walls, old furniture, a rusted fridge that looks more likely to give you tetanus than keep your drinks cold, and a kitchen that could have been the scene of a murder.
Emma added that the family included two elderly members and four children in their group, and the large group was unable to find immediate alternative accommodations.
The group were forced to spend a night among the mold, and unkempt facilities.
Mattresses were covered in lizard droppings, and dirt. When she asked the guard to speak to management, she was informed that they only work “office hours.”
She told New Straits Times that instead of sleeping in the rooms, they all slept on the floor, with doors open, so that air could circulate.
The price to sleep on the floor? RM400 (US$90) per night, breakfast not included.
Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd are the alleged management company of the so-called resort, and as soon as Emma’s post went viral, they contacted her, offering to reimburse her if she would take her post down.
She refused.
She hopes perhaps the public exposure will force them to cough up the funds necessary to make their bungalows habitable for humans. If not, she promises to take the issue to Tourism Malaysia.
In the meantime, fellow travelers, it doesn’t hurt to Trip Advisor your next destination spot to get some real-person reactions to where you’re headed, and not just the brochure.
