Family escapes burning home in USJ

A family in Subang Jaya managed to escape from their double-storey terrace home as a fire destroyed the building last night.

The house in USJ11 began sometime around 10pm and a distress call was made to the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station a few minutes later, The Star Online reports.

The portal quoted owner Surianna Teh Abdullah, 54, as saying that she, along with her husband and 16-year-old daughter, had arrived home after dinner and realised that the power supply had gone.

“We tried to open our automated gate but couldn’t. When we finally got into the house, we tried to switch on the lights and but twice, the power tripped. We heard noises coming from upstairs. We thought there were robbers but then we started seeing thick smoke,” she was quoted as saying.

It was at this point that they saw the huge fire and all three exited the house. Firemen reportedly took 45 minutes to put out the flames.
