The Family That Deals Together: Parents and son arrested for possessing RM230K worth of heroin

Nothing like a little family togetherness to keep a budding drug distribution business interesting.

Narcotics police in Ipoh arrested a family of three – a 58-year old farmer, his 54-year old wife, and their 20-year old son – on suspicion of running a heroin distribution operation out of their house in Taman Gopeng Baru.

Perak Narcotics CID chief R Ravi Chandran told The Star Online‘s Manjit Kaur that a police team descended on the family’s home last Friday at 3.50pm after first stopping the father while he was drving his car in the neighbourhood.

The car was found to have contained 4.5 kilogrammes of heroin.

When police raided the family home, another 50.7gm of heroin was found.

Perak police believe the heroin could be meant for distribution in the Ipoh, Gopeng, and Kampar districts, supplying about 3,500 addicts in those areas with their fix.

“The three have been remanded until Friday for further investigations,” Ravi Chandran said. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerouns Drugs Act 1953, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
