Police have arrested the Facebook account holder, who holds a profile under the moniker Catt Ginger, for insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong via the social media site.
Police reports were filed yesterday morning at the Sungai Senam Police Station by the Perak Umno Youth movement, as well as 12 NGOs as being an insult to the King, as well as Islam.
The image showed an edited photo of the Agong, along with the tag of Selamat Hari Raya. We can’t show it to you for obvious reasons.
Catt Ginger himself claims that he was not responsible for the post, and that his account had been compromised. He has filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. Buddy, you gotta be up on that two-step log-in process if you’re getting hacked like this.
Umno Youth head Syamsul Baharin Putra Ahmad Shibi has called for such provocations to hold heavier sentences, believing that such acts have carried too lenient a punishment.
In 2016, a teenager was given a one year sentence after insulting the Johor royal family.
A bad idea everyone can agree on.
