Travellers wanting to use the Express Rail Link (ERL) trains to get to KLIA and KLIA2 will have to fork out quite a bit more for the privilege, as the fare for the high-speed train service has been raised from RM35 to RM55.
The announcement by ERL Berhad yesterday comes in the wake of similar rate hikes announced for the PLUS and MEX highways, which both lead to the country’s top airports.
To soften the blow of the rate hikes, ERL will be giving out discounts for travellers through several mechanisms.
Those using certain credit cards to purchase their tickets will be given a 20% discount, while passengers buying their tickets through the ERL mobile app and kiosks will receive a 10% discount.
A promotional period for Touch ‘n Go card users will also offer a 10% discount, and travellers can save RM10 by purchasing round-trip tickets instead of one-way.
A 44-trip monthly travel card offered by ERL will allow frequent users a discount of between 17% and 83%.
Senior citizens and the disabled will continue to be given a 30% discount on their fares on the ERL.
More information on the new rates can be obtained at www.kliaekspres.com.
