If you’re wanting to avoid phone calls, and happen to be a Celcom customer, you are in luck this fine day. Celcom, Malaysia’s widest internet purveyor, is experiencing complete network failure across the country. Those who live in Malaysia’s most rural regions, where Celcom is your only option to communicate with those in the region, have been forced to use landlines like it’s 1997.
No calls, or SMSs for subscribers to their service are going through this morning. Celcom says the outage began at 6:45am and is still in effect.
A company statement issued has said that “data services seem to be unaffected at the moment.” And suggest using the WhatsApp call feature (beloved service of those too cheap to make the call, and comfortable with a crackly line) or Facetime (at your own risk).
User of WeBe, RedOne and Tunetalk are also experiencing outages this morning.
Enjoy the zen of a silent phone while it lasts.
