Tragic news in Serdang today: an elderly man died after rushing back into his burning house to save some of his belongings.
The Star Online’s Natasha Joibi reports that the octogenarian was burnt to death in the 5.30am blaze that destroyed his home at Jalan SK 7/10, Taman Bukit Serdang.
The portal said that the man, identified as Ten Yoon, had been asleep when the fire fire broke out. With him were his family members including his 50-year-old son who had reportedly woken up first by the smell of smoke and got everyone — his parents and girlfriend — out of the house.
“We were safely evacuated when my father rushed back into the house to rescue several possessions. While inside the house, the roof collapsed and he was never able to came out of the burning building,” he was quoted as saying.
Although the cause of the fire has not been determined, a neighbour told The Star Online that he had seen fire coming from an air-conditioner installed in the house.
