We all gotta do what we have to do to make ends meet sometimes. For some, that includes dressing up as a mascot and hustling the streets for a couple of bucks.

Which is fine if you’re a strong and healthy young person. But if you’re an elderly lady, spending several hours a day inside a mascot suit is hardly ideal.

In a Facebook post by KL-based digital creator Roslan Salleh, he wrote about how people are feeling the pinch of living in this economy – especially in a big city like KL.

Roslan was at Bazaar Malam Wangsa Maju, a place where costumed mascots are often seen taking photos with people for tips. On this particular night, Roslan was surprised to see that the person behind one of the mascots was an elderly woman.

“I was shocked to see that one of those mascots was a senior citizen around my mother’s age, and probably your parents’ age,” he wrote.

He said that although he admired her determination, he felt that, at her age, she should be resting at home.

“You can see the tiredness on this old face but what can I do? Maybe this is the only way to generate halal income,” he continued.

It is not clear if he reached out to her.

Many people in the comments were also sympathetic toward her, some echoing Roslan’s sentiments that someone her age should be at home with her family instead of entertaining others.
