A woman, aged 61, was killed in a bus accident that took place at Woodlands Checkpoint on Monday night. Police said they were alerted around 11:40pm to the incident, which occurred at the departure bus bay. The victim was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, and the 27-year-old male bus driver is assisting with investigations.

Lianhe Wanbao identified the woman as Madam Yong Kong Fong, a Malaysian who lived in Johor Baru and worked part-time in a restaurant here. She was believed to be on her way home when the accident happened.

The Straits Times reported that Facebook user Ming Shyan, an eyewitness at the site, claimed the woman was running after the crowded bus in an attempt to get on board. But she tripped and fell, and ended up being run over by the Malaysian vehicle.

The New Paper quoted another witness as saying that he yelled at the driver to stop, but it was too late and she had fallen under the wheels of the vehicle. When the bus finally pulled over, she was not responsive.

Family members of Madam Yong were contacted about her death by the police on Tuesday morning.
