EC to meet on Friday to decide Sg Besar, Kuala Kangsar by-election dates

The Election Commission (EC) will meet on Friday to set dates for two parliamentary by-elections following the deaths of incumbents, Sungai Besar MP Noriah Kasnon and Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, last week.

The EC received official notification from the Dewan Rakyat on the vacancy of these seats, yesterday.

“In line with Article 54 (1) of the Federal Constitution, the vacancies in the two seats will have to be filled. The EC will call for a meeting to determined the important dates for the elections including early voting, nomination and polling,” EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said as reported by The Star Online

A press conference is expected after the meeting.

Noriah and Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar — also Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister and Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairman respectively — were killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak last Thursday.

They were among six who perished in the crash near Sebuyau.
