For an additional RM1, a restaurant in Subang Jaya was fined RM4,000 for raising the price of its nasi lemak.
According to a news report by The Star Online, Restoran Silva’s Curry House raised the price of its nasi lemak from RM2.50 to RM3.50 per plate in June last year, but was unable to justify the increase after diners lodged a report with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry.
The owner of the restaurant, 36-year-old T. Gopinath, pleaded guilty to the charge at a Sessions Court in Subang and was fined RM4,000 for the offence, which carries a fine of up to RM500,000 or two years in jail.
