E-cigarettes banned from check-in luggage: Malaysia Airlines

Smoking an e-cigarette? If you do and you’ve decided to travel on a Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight, you will be asked to have them in your carry-on baggage.

Bernama reports that a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s safety alert which recommended airlines to have passengers pack e-cigarettes in the aircraft cabin has prompted MAS to create a new rule for its passengers.

“Following recent fire incidents involving e-cigarettes, the FAA issued a safety alert recommending all airline operators to ensure e-cigarettes (also called personal vaporisers or electronic nicotine delivery) be carried by passengers exclusively in the cabin of the aircraft and not in checked baggage,” the airline said in a statement.

“Carriage of e-cigarettes which are also called personal vaporisers or electronic nicotine delivery in the passenger cabin addresses this safety risk by ensuring that if an incident does occur, it can be immediately identified and mitigated,” MAS said.

And no, this doesn’t mean you can smoke it in the plane. That rule stays.
