Durian thieves seriously injure orchard owner

A durian orchard owner was seriously injured when he attempted to stop several thiefs who had trespassed into his orchard at Sungai Petani.

According to The Star Online, the man sustained serious wounds on his left arm after the thieves reportedly assaulted him with machetes in the 5am incident.

“The incident occurred at about 5am at a plantation in Kampung Panjang, Gurun, and the victim identified as Teoh Seng Koon, 44, was slashed and warded at a private hospital,” Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Police (ACP) Md Zukir Md Isa told the news portal, adding that three of four people were involved in the attack.

According to the report, Teoh was said to have received a call from one of his employees at 3am saying that a few men had trespassed the orchard.

“The workers didn’t come out from their quarters. Therefore, the victim was said to have rushed to the orchard and was going on his rounds when he bumped into the men.

“A struggle took place between Teoh and the suspects which resulted in him being slashed by a sharp object.”

“The victim tried to run away from the men but he fell down, dislocating his hip bone,” Md Zukir was quoted as saying.

He added that by the time authorities arrived at the scene, the attackers had already fled.

Meanwhile, the victim was reportedly warded in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a private hospital awaiting surgery for the deep cuts in his left arm.
