Two men were sentenced to one day’s jail and fined RM1,000 for stealing four Manchester United shirts, among other things.
According to The Star Online, the two accused — Norshahar Jamil, 32, and Nur Adila Ismail, 21 — pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read out to them by Magistrate Nur’ Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor.
The two, one a sporting good supplier and the other a promoter, reportedly stole four Manchester United shirts, four lingerie, two boxes of underwear, two bags and an undergarment totalling up to RM720.90 from an Aeon supermarket in Quill City Mall at 3.10pm.
Lawyer Azi Azlin Zulkifli, who reprensented both the accused, pleaded for leniency as his clients were first time offenders and they were remorseful.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhaidariah Ahmad, meanwhile, asked for a deterrent sentence to be given as the stolen items were not necessities.
