Driver of runaway bus remanded for four days

The driver of the bus that rammed into 10 vehicles near the Menora Tunnel on the North-South Expressway on Sunday has been remanded for four days.

According to The Star Online, magistrate’s court assistant registrar Ng Geok Nee ordered the driver to be remanded until Thursday to help facilitate investigations.

Perak traffic police chief Supt Wan Jamil Wan Chik told the news portal that checks revealed that the driver had nine outstanding traffic summonses issued between 2011 and last year.

“A total of 63 traffic summonses have been issued to this particular bus involved in the incident,” he was quoted as saying.

The bus driver, meanwhile, tested negative for drugs, Supt Wan Jamil added.

“We are still awaiting the result of other tests from the Chemistry Department,” he was further quoted as saying.

Earlier investigations have revealed that the bus reportedly experienced technical difficulties as it travelled down the slope towards the crash site.
