A police outrider was injured when a stubborn driver crashed into him at a traffic light junction in Miri on Tuesday, according to The New Straits Times.
In the 5pm incident, Lance Corporal Mohd Nur Iman Ngarif, 24, was reportedly escorting a convoy of officials for the ongoing 18th Malaysian Games (Sukma) when the accident happened.
Sarawak Traffic Police Officer Deputy Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu told the daily that Nur Iman was manning traffic at the junction when a Toyota Avanza rammed into him.
“The traffic policeman was stopping other vehicles to ensure smooth passage for the Sukma convoy.
“The driver of the Avanza, however, did not heed the order and proceeded instead but ended up crashing into our man,” Alexson was quoted as saying.
Nur Iman reportedly sustained injuries on his right shoulder and body as well as his mouth, and was rushed to the Miri Hospital for treatment.
He is reportedly in a stable condition.
