Dr M says he’s ready to share a prison cell with Anwar Ibrahim

Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister and currently the biggest thorn in the side of sitting PM Najib Razak, Dr Mahathir Mohamad has stated that he would be willing to share the same prison cell as his archnemesis Anwar Ibrahim for voicing his opinions against the Federal Government.

Shortly after being questioned by the Royal Malaysian Police today over a post in his personal blog titled “AG to AG”, Dr M said he was prepared to face the consequences of his actions.

In the post, dated February 3, Dr M lambasted Attorney-General Apandi Ali for deciding to shut down investigations on former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International and the source and nature of the RM2.6 billion deposited into Najib’s personal bank accounts in 2013.

“I’m prepared for the consequences as my concern is on the people and this country, and for this, I will continue to speak my mind even if it meant going to Sungai Buloh and sharing the same cell with Anwar,” he said, as quoted by The Malay Mail Online‘s A Ruban.

Mahathir was grilled for almost two hours at his office at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, where investigators asked him about 30 questions – some of which the former PM declined to answer except as sworn testimony in a court of law.

Dr M is being investigated under criminal defamation laws that, if convicted, could land him in prison for two years, a fine, or both.

“I am doing this for the future of this country and if you ask if I am prepared to go to jail, I will say if you stick your neck out, you must be prepared to get it chopped off,” Mahathir said.
